It's not been the best week for DC. While Dan DiDio undertakes damage control with regards to the Batwoman creative team leaving, DC hosts a new talent contest in which artists must draw Harley Quinn attempting to off herself while in the nude.
The contest, which has been set up for those wanting to break into the industry, asks artists to submit four panels, including attempting to be struck by lightening, trying to get eaten by alligators by wearing a suit of raw chicken and tickling the inside of a whale's mouth.
However, by far the worst one is the following:
Harley sitting naked in a bathtub with toasters, blow dryers, blenders, appliances all dangling above the bathtub and she has a cord that will release them all. We are watching the moment before the inevitable death. Her expression is one of “oh well, guess that’s it for me” and she has resigned herself to the moment that is going to happen.
DC is now drawing flack due to its overt sexualisation of female suicide, which is especially bad PR considering it's National Suicide Prevention Week in the States this week.
While Quinn has always been the zany butt of jokes, DC has taken this contest too far.
