Open discussion: if you could choose any film to remake, what would it be?

The recent decade has seen a slew of remakes, from god awful to mildly disappointing. But if there were any remake you would want to see, what would it be?

  1. I would love to see the long threatened 'Barbarella' remake actually make it into reality. The original was great fun. I know a lot of people see it as very much a product of it's time, and they're right of course but I'd still love to see what they'd do with a modern version. I've heard a number of people mentioned for the lead role, one of whom is 'Drew Barrymore'. I think she's got the perfect look for it if nothing else. Although I wouldn't be disappointed if she gained a pound or two for this particular role.

  2. The Final Countdown, but they should let the Nimitz take on the Japanese fleet.

    1. I will go into more depth. Mine would be a little staid. Hal Jordan has always been a one woman sort of dude. He's also one of those liberal Republicans that only exists in textbooks these days, all about the private sector while liking people other than those he can directly relate to. And he wouldn't suffer from self-doubt. His problem with Sinistro would be that he found his brutal compelling, but would feel he wasn't cut out for the part. And he wouldn't quit until after the first space battle. When called back, he show his capabilities after the full-force tactics showed their weaknesses. He'd actually grow softer as people he got to realize his own capabilities and weaknesses. And the villain would be somebody other than a big-headed nerd gone wrong.

  4. 'Tales of an Ancient Empire' because the first version was so awful.

  5. I'd love to see remakes of really bad movies, because the bar was set so low before that a modern remake would be well worth it. Galaxy of Terror, Star Crash, the Fulci's Zombie....these movies could be all the more awesomely bad with remakes!
