Fabled Lands: The Court of Hidden Faces expected in "a couple of weeks"

Book five of the Fabled Lands series, The Court of Hidden Faces, will be available in stores in a couple of weeks, author Dave Morris has revealed.

The new gamebook, mostly written by Jamie Thomson, is set in Old Harkuna and Uttaku, which are modelled on Arthurian Britain and Byzantium respectively. Like previous entries in the series, the book will allow you to take on the role of an adventurer and live out a sandbox-style life, with the ability to travel between books.

Morris also stated on his blog that he is hard at work on producing the next book in the series: "I'm going to keep tinkering with the files for Book 6: Lords of the Rising Sun whenever I have a spare moment, and that should certainly be ready in good time for Christmas."

Originally the cover art for The Court of Hidden Faces was done by Kevin Jenkins, with interior art by Russ Nicholson, though it remains to be seen whether Morris will still be using Nicholson's artwork.

  1. I've had these books on my amazon list for a while. there's always some other book that takes precedence. The real question is, are they worth buying? What's your take on the series- any good, excellent?

    1. Personally, I think they're great. If you're a fan of open world games or MMOs (to an extent) then I think you will get a lot out of these book. They definitely work best when you have a bunch of them, rather than just one, but each individual book is still very entertaining.

  2. Well, I doubted that I'd see this book in print. Really felt betrayed when I bought the reprints of 1-4 just to be told that 5-6 would not be released. It felt like Jamie and Dave had taken advantage of my nostalgia; so this is good news indeed! :)

    1. Hi Angst - sorry about that, we're honestly the least cynical people you could meet :) It was just that we couldn't make the books work using our old printer, because of the cost of setting the files up. But then somebody told me about Createspace and suddenly it's all become possible.

Scott, to answer your question about artwork: yes, books 5 and 6 certainly will have all of Russ's illustrations from the first edition. Well, almost all... The leprechaun just had to go.

    2. Thanks for clarifying - I pretty much knew it would be a definite that his art would be included, but I didn't want to say just in case. He is one of the greatest fantasy artists of all time, so it would have been a huge loss not to have them.

      Not the leprechaun!!
