10 reasons why 2015 will be the year of the nerd

I know we're not even into 2014 yet, but holy hell have you seen what's in store for 2015?

If you're into genre stuff like any red-blooded nerd then 2015 is going to be your year. Here's why...

10. Jurassic World

It's been 12 years since Jurassic Park 3 splodged onto our screens, but since then fans have been eager to see the next in the dino franchise. It's been confirmed by director Colin Trevorrow that Jurassic World will take us back to Isla Nublar, the island from the first film. Not much is known about the plot, but apparently it will feature a new terrifying dinosaur that'll no doubt eat all the people.

9. Ant-Man
Yep, another year another flood of Marvel films, but 2015 is going to be the biggest year of them all. Edgar Wright's much anticipated Ant-Man will hit the screens, a story about Hank Pym, a brilliant scientist who creates size-altering particles. Not a whole lot is known about the project, but with Wright at the helm hopefully it's going to be good.

8. Jessica Jones/Iron Fist/Power Man/Daredevil Series
A couple of months ago Marvel announced that they have struck up a deal with Netflix to produce not one but five series based on characters and a super team. Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Power Man and Daredevil will be getting their own series' on the service along with a crossover series called Defenders. Safe to say this is the online TV event 2015 is made for.

7. The Fantastic Four

Another Marvel franchise and certainly not the last, The Fantastic Four will be getting a big screen reboot a la The Amazing Spider-Man. Hopefully they will avoid the horrific casting, plot and effects of the previous films.

6.   Terminator

He's back. Arnie will be reprising his role but perhaps not as we remember is. Apparently he will be playing a human with close connections to Sarah Connor, the person the future T-800s were based on. Yep, it's billed as a reboot but will it be better than Salvation? Let's hope so.

5. Bond 24

Ok, so it's not entirely in the realm of nerd-dom but damn if I'm not excited about the follow up to Skyfall. If you saw the last film then you'll know (spoilers ahead!) that they have essentially rebooted the franchise again and we're in quite familiar territory with the introduction of all the trappings of the classic Sean Connery flicks.

4. Assassin's Creed

No matter what your feelings are about Assassin's Creed as a game franchise, there's no doubt that gamers will be flocking to see the Michael Fassbender fronted film when it arrives in cinemas in 2015. Look, it's a video game movie so it's probably going to be awful, but let's hold out some hope, shall we?

3. Batman Vs Superman

Zack Snyder is following up the Man of Steel reboot with the film fans have been waiting for since they first read The Dark Knight Returns. Batffleck is in the house, along with newly announced Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and even The Flash. Is it going to be a fustercluck? Maybe? Will it make a tonne of money? Absolutely.

2. Avengers: Age of Ultron

So what could top Batman Vs Superman in the box office? How about the follow up to one of the biggest grossing films of all time. Avengers: Age of Ultron is no doubt going to be one of the most exciting events of the year, seeing the team assemble once again to take on the evil A.I. Ultron. Film-goers will also be introduced to Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver as probable new members of the team.

1. Star Wars: Episode VII

We've been burned before with the prequels, but still we're all going to flock to the cinema to see the beginning of the new Star Wars trilogy fronted by J.J. Abrams. There is going to be so much buzz around Episode VII in the year leading up to its release that you're not going to be able to move for news and rumours. Abrams is probably going to do a decent job of it, but it remains to be seen if he can make it as memorable as the original trilogy.
