Gen Con 2014 draws biggest crowd ever

As much as I would love to have gone, it's good to know that Gen Con is only going from strength to strength. Forbes reports that the world famous tabletop gaming convention last week drew a crowd of 56,614 - a 14% increase on last year and double that of five years ago.

Is this growth caused by a resurgence in gaming popularity over the years? Because of self-publishing there have been a tonne of new companies popping up recently, meaning that more tastes are catered for. When shows like Geek & Sundry, something that would have once been considered underground, get millions of dollars in funding, then you have to think about how far tabletop gaming has come.
